The Bard Songs

Narkarian culture exists in two spheres: the religious/mythological one, and the local folklore one. While Narkarian mythology and religion are safely guarded by the Council of Runes and its sage keepers and tell us the deeds of the mighty ones, Narkarn’s folklore belongs to human heroes, their achievements, and those who sing their songs. The bards are an integral part of Narkarian society, a cornerstone of their taverns, dinner halls, inns, and even town centers. With instruments or just their voice, they tell or sing about the greatness that lives in the Sons of Narkarn, astounding enough to beckon the gods to aid them in quests and deeds that will awe all generations to come. Bardic presence is not uncommon around Eyria; what makes them unique in the Narkarian setting is how its locals make their pantheon of mortal divinities grow as time passes by, unlike elsewhere where the tales of valiant champions of the past remain the same, unadulterated, unchanged, forgetting the mighty ancient days of men and women stronger and wiser than those of today.

People may never know their names, but their legacy will forever remain in people’s hearts and minds. Unlike the glory of the Gods, the labors of mortal heroes aren’t written in runes and stone. Frequently, these come from local beliefs and histories shared by a community that, upon arriving at the ears of a fable-teller, became an epic homage to the spirit of a Narkarian hero. As hymn travels, the story grows, often picking up its own variations and novel details. The most famous ones become elaborate collaborations between artists and patrons, with dance routines, theatrics, and lots. Lots. Of drinking. In their core, the loosely-connected weave of yarns and canticles are how the common folk learn about what makes a Narkarian a true Narkarian, one that makes their father Baldan proud of them.
